Overview

Kathi Lipp LLC offers optional SMS text message notifications to members of its membership portal at portal.kathilipp.com. SMS is never enabled by default. Members must explicitly opt in by (1) checking a consent checkbox, (2) providing their phone number, and (3) verifying it through a one-time code — all on their profile page within the portal.

How Members Opt In

The opt-in process requires deliberate action at every step. Members cannot receive SMS text messages without completing this entire flow:

  1. Sign in to the Portal — Members sign in to portal.kathilipp.com and navigate to their Profile Settings page.
  2. Enter Phone Number — In the Account Information section, members enter their mobile phone number in international format (e.g., +15551234567).
  3. Check the SMS Consent Checkbox — Before they can click "Verify Phone Number," members must check an explicit consent checkbox. The checkbox label reads:

"I agree to receive SMS text messages from Kathi Lipp LLC, including event reminders, @mention alerts, and announcements. Message frequency varies (typically 1–5 per week). Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to cancel at any time. Reply HELP for help. View full SMS terms."

The "Verify Phone Number" button remains disabled until this checkbox is checked.

  1. Click "Verify Phone Number" — The member actively clicks the Verify Phone Number button (only enabled after consent checkbox is checked), which sends a one-time 6-digit verification code to the provided phone number via SMS.
  2. Enter Verification Code — The member enters the 6-digit code they received. This confirms they have access to the phone number and have received the disclosure.
  3. Verification Complete — Upon successful code entry, the phone number is marked as verified. A green "Verified" badge is shown. The member is now eligible to enable SMS text message notifications.
  4. Enable SMS Notification Types — On the Notification Preferences page, verified members can toggle individual SMS text message notification categories on or off:
    • Event Reminders — reminders before scheduled live events
    • @Mentions — when another member mentions you in a comment or post
    • Announcements — important announcements from program administrators

    All SMS toggles default to off. Members must individually enable each notification type they wish to receive via text message.

How to Opt Out

Members can stop receiving SMS text messages at any time using any of these methods:

  • Reply STOP — Text STOP to any message received from Kathi Lipp LLC. Opt-out is processed immediately.
  • Disable in Portal — Turn off individual SMS toggles on the Notification Preferences page, or remove the phone number entirely from the Profile page.

After opting out via STOP, the portal displays a notice on both the Profile and Notification Preferences pages informing the member that SMS is paused and how to re-enable (by texting START).
